The Phoenix Pendant Beta Reading
Beta Reading Sign-up!
Hi everyone!
Last week, I mentioned that I’d be opening up beta reader spots for my fantasy novel, The Phoenix Pendant, so I wanted to share a little more information for anyone who might be interested.
About the Book
Title: The Phoenix Pendant
Length: ~75,000 words
Genre: YA Fantasy / Adventure
Tropes & Themes: found family, magical artifacts, slow-burn romance, self-discovery
Ideal Readers
I’m mainly looking for readers who enjoy:
YA fantasy
Young adult books
Fantasy adventure stories
You don’t need any experience as a beta reader or editor—honest reactions from regular readers are exactly what I’m looking for.
What Beta Reading Involves
If selected, you’ll receive a copy of the manuscript and have three months to read it (until June 27th). During that time, I’ll send three short surveys spaced throughout the book, plus one final survey about the story overall.
You don’t need to focus on grammar or technical edits. The most helpful feedback is things like:
plot and pacing
characters
moments that confused you
scenes you loved (or didn’t)
If you like leaving notes as you read, you’re totally welcome to! That could be writing in the margins (for paper copies), leaving comments digitally, or even just quick reactions like “I love this line!” or “I’m confused…”
Format Options
You’ll be able to choose whichever format you prefer:
Google Docs (easy for commenting)
PDF (good for reading on devices like Kindle)
Printed manuscript mailed to you (with a prepaid return label included)
Check-ins & Extras
About every other week, I’ll send a quick check-in email to see how reading is going. I’ll also share some fun extras like character face claims, behind-the-scenes notes, and other little bonuses.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, feel free to sign up! I’ll be selecting a small group of readers to make sure the feedback is manageable and a good fit for the story.
Thanks so much for considering being part of the process—it really means a lot!
Thank you again!
Abby Henderson
